Savannah Kay Schroff's Arrival

Hello!! My name is Savannah Kay Schroff and I was born on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:45 pm. I was 8.15 pounds and 21 inches long. Here is the story about how I was born.

Just born!

Mommy and Daddy went to the hospital on Friday January 14th at 3:00 am for me to be induced. I was expected to be a large baby so they did not want Mommy to go to full term. They first started Mommy on Pitocin. After maxing out on Pitocin Mommy was still only dilated to a 2. Then they gave Mommy another induction drug to help soften her cervix. That was going to take 12 hours to work. At least Mommy got to eat and sleep. After 12 hours Mommy's cervix was softer, but she still was dilated to a 2. The last resort was to give Mommy what they called the "Dynamite Pill". This pill was suppose to dilate and soften the cervix more. If that didn't work then we would have to have the discussion of either go home or go C-Section. Mommy didn't really want to do either. Luckily after 4 hours Mommy finally dilated to a 4. They put her back on Pitocin and then broke her water. After the Dr. broke her water then labor really started. About an hour later the contractions were so bad that Mommy requested her epidural. Finally the Dr. came to give her the Epidural. When Mommy sat up she was dilated to a 5. Ten minutes later after she was given the Epidural Mommy was dilated to a 9. Wow! Now it was time to push. The Epidural barley kicked in by that time. About 20 minutes later I was born. Mommy and Daddy were so happy. They say I looked a lot like my sister Abby. I was such a pretty girl!! Yeah me!
The next morning Mommy and Daddy where hoping to be discharged so they could take me home. The hospital Pediatrician came to check me out. It turned out that I had a very high heart beat when I was asleep. Next time he checked it had come down, but there was concern that it was so high for that moment when I was calm. They were thinking that I might have a heart condition called SVT. They wanted to take me to the nursery and monitor me for 24 hours. The Nurse came and got me and they had decided to take me to NICU to monitor me instead of the normal nursery. They ordered an EKG and and Echo cardiogram. Mommy and Daddy where both really scared and hated me being in the NICU, but it is better to be safe. Both tests came back normal. My heart beat never did spike again. Mommy and Daddy where given their own stethoscope to count my heart beat when I got home. Finally they released me from the NICU and discharged both me and Mommy. They were so excited to bring me home. The hospital (St. Josephs) took such good care of my me and my Mommy. Our Nurses rocked. Mommy said between the two of us we had at least 10 different nurses, 4 Residents, 5 Medical Students, 2 Pediatricians and 1 very awesome Dr. (Dr. Culbertson)!

My first day home was great! My big sister Abby was so glad that we were finally home. Abby didn't like that we were at the hospital for so long and really missed us. I am such a good baby. I don't cry that often and I am already getting on a good schedule. I am such a sweety! I do really good tummy time and my neck is getting so strong already. Mommy has 5 more weeks of maternity leave left and then Daddy is going on 6 weeks maternity leave. I love the time I get to spend with them. Abby is still going to Preschool, but I get to spend lots of time with her once she gets home. I will be going into daycare around April. That will be good since RSV and Flu season will be over by then!

I am so glad to be here now! I can't wait to give you more updates!

Christmas 2010

I had a great Christmas!! Santa brought me a bike with a baby carrier and a Rapunzel doll! We had a busy day. First we opened presents with Grandma Bev and Papa Wayne, Uncle Eric and Aunt Amy. Then we went over to Nana’s for brunch and opened more presents with Uncle Gregg, Aunt Lisa and cousin Katelyn! Then we went over to Uncle Eric’s and Aunt Amy’s for dinner. Grandpa Dan, Carol, Uncle Max, Great Grandma Schroff and Great Grandpa Schroff were there too. I got to go swimming in Uncle Eric’s Jacuzzi which was so much fun!! I got lots of fun things this year. I am such a lucky girl to have so many people love me so much! My family is the best!

.......and 24 hours later I learned my first lesson about bike riding. You must pay attention to where you are going! I went for a bike ride with Daddy, but on our way back to the house I was looking at the other kids playing in the green belt behind our house. I ended up riding off the sidewalk into the guard rail on the green belt and into the rocks. I scrapped up my nose and hit it so hard on the rail that I got a bad bloody nose. Unfortunately bike helmets do not protect faces. Both me and Daddy where covered with blood. I didn’t cry very long though. Now I know to pay attention when riding my bike!

My first bike accident. Ouch!

4 Year Old Checkup

I had my 4 year old check up last week! I am still a very healthy girl. I am 90% for weight and 97% height. I got to take my first hearing and eye test which I passed. I also got 2 more shots, which I didn’t like. I go to the Dentist this week. I have been really good brushing my teeth every day so I hope I don’t have any cavities.

Mommy has a really big belly. I like to tell her that a lot! I am going to be a Big Sister in about a month. I asked Mommy the other day, " After the baby comes will your belly go away and will you be able to carry me again?". She said yes so I was happy about that!

My new big word that I have learned to use is "Accommodating". I used it when Mommy took me to the restroom at dinner. The restrooms were really nice and I told Mommy that they were really accommodating! I think I surprised Mommy with my big word!! I am so smart!

Zoo Lights / Santa

I am getting really excited for Christmas. We went to Zoo lights and then last week we went with Granny Annie to the Railroad Park to see lights and go see Santa. Santa sent me an email message from the North Pole. Here is the link if you want to watch it: http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/watch/1MlOylRQ9s_JnVbCQxxDwA . He knew exactly who I was!! I like to watch it over and over again. When I went to go see Santa I sat on his lap all by myself! I asked for a bike with a baby carrier on the back. I didn't ask for anything else. That is all I want. Even though I have been a really good girl this year, Santa sent an Elf to watch over me this month. It is my Elf on a Shelf! Every day he sees what I do and then reports back to Santa at night. Then he comes back and hides in a different spot each day. I like getting up and finding him every morning. I think the Elf reports good things, because I am a really good girl!!

Me in my wagon at Zoo Lights. It was a cold night!

Belated Thanksgiving Update

For Thanksgiving my school had a big Potluck dinner. At the dinner my Pre-school class sang a special Thanksgiving song. We didn’t really sing all together, but we all looked really cute! For Thanksgiving dinner we went over to Aunt Amy and Uncle Eric’s. That was fun!
